About Candice Murphy
Candice was born into a Family of Artist and Craftsmen. Growing up immersed in the vibrant Art and Antique Culture of the Palm Beaches influenced Candices decision to pursue a career as a Gilder Restorer. Candice began her training in her Mother's workshop and later working with European Artisans at The Flamingo Park Studio located in the famed "Antique Row" district of West Palm Beach.
Antique Conservation
The difference in whether an antique is Conserved or whether a piece is Restored depends on the amount of damage a piece has endured.
Whether to Restore or Wether to Conserve your Antique will be discussed and decided upon evaluation.
Conservation of an Antique is to identify damaged and unstable areas of a piece and use accurate materials only to fix or stabilize those areas leaving the remainder of the piece untouched or in its current condition, blending new repairs into old ones to the best of my ability.
Antique Restoration
Restoration of a piece means to stabilize, reinforce, and rebuild compromised areas of an antique and then to refinish to have a new appearance.
I tend to prefer a conservative approach to respect the creator and age of the pieces which are trusted to my care.
